A lot of self made music on the net sucks big time, and I object to artists spamming people to get their music heard. QFS avoids this and the Bulletin Board System atmosphere means only nice people bother staying long. Perfect. In addition meets and rave events are organised by the team, and you can hook up with the guys and girls you've been chatting to online.
Micromusic has been described as a 'comfort station' for fans of old 8bit computers. This is true, and the computer of choice is definitely the Commodore C64. I'm no big lover of this machine, preferring Atari ST, but it must be said the C64 is the most advanced of its generation and has the infamous SID sound chip micromusic obsesses about.
Of all the on-line MP3s on the site I only listen to about 10% on a regular basis. This is because of the diverse range of styles, and you will find something to suit your tastes. My favourite microtrack is 'edd the duck' by The Dead Guys, but no one else seems to think so ;-> Most of the Dead Guys tracks are good or excellent and they deserve to get signed to a big breakbeat label. Bodenstandig 2000 member drx has also uploaded good material - try 'tituscover' and I challenge you not to sing along. Psilodumputer aims for a progressive style which works best on the dancefloor, rather than home listening, but again the music is high quality. Other popular microtrax are by Rephlex artist Lektrogirl, they're a bit too lovely for me but 'unhappy supermarket' is beautiful and overlooked. Winners of the frequent remix competitions are also downloaded often.
If I were to level one criticism at the releases it's at the lack of vocal tracks, but perhaps people are self-conscious of singing. There has only been two off-lines release so far. They're good, and I expect more are planned for the future.
